Adalynn Mae Jessen, 4, of Franklin, Indiana, went to Heaven in the company of angels on Thursday, May 13, 2021 with her parents by her side. Addie Mae was born on February 11, 2017 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Kathryn “Kate” Paige (Sargent) and Zachary “Zach” John Jessen.
Addie Mae brought light and joy to the lives of everyone who knew her. She loved animals, namely her special service dog, Hank, and was always excited to be with her ducks, horses, emus, cats, goats, chickens, and favorite hen, Elsa, who followed her everywhere she went. She was especially fond of frogs and could often be found with one or two in her pockets. She felt most at home on the farm, the “Jessen Homestead”, and enjoyed being outside painting rocks she found in the creek, going on golf cart rides, and being chased around by her daddy on her pink tractor. Addie carried her blanket wherever she went and would eat pizza for every meal if she had it her way. She never turned down a chance to watch Bubble Guppies, Frozen, Trolls, or Moana with her mommy, ride her yellow strider bike, listen to her favorite Disney songs, or taking a dip in Papaw Sargent’s pool. Her life was filled with laughter, discovery, and joy. When thinking of Addie Mae, always remember to choose joy.
Addie Mae is survived by her parents, Kate and Zach Jessen of Franklin, IN; her grandparents, Natalie and Jeff Sargent of Franklin, IN and Suellen and John Jessen of Nineveh, IN; her great-grandparents, Alice and John Zelahy of Lafayette, IN; her three aunts, Andrea (Nick Kleier) Sargent of Indianapolis, IN, Erika (Drew) Woodrum of Trafalgar, IN, and Julie (Doni) Jessen Blair of Lyons, MI; her three cousins, Claire Woodrum and Maylie Woodrum, both of Trafalgar, IN, and Taylor Brown of Ionia, MI; her pediatrician, Dr. Megan Ciaccio, her special doctors at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Dr. Margot Lazow and Dr. Natasha Smiley, all the doctors and staff who helped in her care, and the many friends and family who supported her.
No more doctors, no more hospitals, no more “ouchies” and no more cancer. Adalynn, you are free. You are healed and whole again in Heaven. You left this world with wings on your back after an almost 10-month battle with DIPG. You fought with such bravery and were such an inspiration to everyone who knew you. Addie Mae did not lose her battle. She won. She can run now; she’s not scared or hurting. She’ll spend eternity in the arms of Jesus. DIPG didn’t win that morning, Heaven did. Heaven is a whole lot brighter with this sweet angel there.
