Abraham Brown Jr. 67, of College Station, was greeted by his God on his home going Friday morning, May 26, 2017, in the Hospice Brazos Valley Inpatient Facility in Bryan, TX.
Abraham was born to Abraham and Helen Blue Brown in Jacksonville, Ill., on October 4, 1949. He was one of four children to Abraham Sr. and his wife.
Abraham Jr. was a man of moral foundation and faith. He strove for perfection and offered encouragement to others throughout his life.
He married the love of his life Jacqueline Ann Mitchell on March 14, 1970, in Jacksonville, Illinois. The young coach and his bride would begin a life together, which offered many opportunities to grow as one. They followed his Track and Field coaching career, which moved them several times beginning with the University of North Texas (Alumni Member), Texas Tech University, Texas A&M University and Abilene Christian University.
Coach Brown retired from Texas A&M University in 2004. He was the assistant coach for the men and women’s horizontal jumps, relay team, sprints and high hurdles.
Coach Brown enjoyed life off the track field as well; he was a family man who enjoyed cooking his BBQ and listening to an array of music genres for all to enjoy. He also loved to go to a garage sale and to visit the Jockey Lot (flea market). He loved a good bargain. His family, colleagues, former athletes, and friends will miss him; but we all know coach would want us to enjoy an adult beverage of choice in his honor.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Jacqueline Brown; children Abraham Brown III, Adam Brown, Ashlee Brown and husband Aaron Cheatham; grandson Alonzo; his father Abraham Brown Sr.; his sisters Cheryl McCleary and husband Ellis; Aurelia Reese, and Bonnie Fearson; and other close family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Brown.
