Zona Elaine Nelson Hatch passed away April 19, 2017, at the age of 93, in the presence of her beloved husband, Tarrell Hatch, and family members.
Zona was born in Burton, Idaho, on March 26, 1924, to Sterling and Leah Nelson. She was raised with a sister and three brothers. She attended Madison High School in Rexburg and attended several classes taught by her father, who taught Math and Science there. She participated in drama and cheerleading. During her senior year, World War II broke out. After graduating, she took employment as a stenographer at Fort Douglas in Salt Lake City, Utah. Zona attended college at Utah Agricultural College and worked at the Production Credit Association in Logan, Utah.
It was while living in Logan that Miss Nelson met and dated Tarrell G. Hatch, a young man running the family farm in Paradise, Utah. They were married March 27, 1946, in the Idaho Falls Idaho LDS Temple in the first year the Temple was open. The couple lived in Paradise, Utah, for two years before moving to a beautiful farm northeast of Idaho Falls, where she resided the rest of her life. The couple recently celebrated 71 years of marriage. Zona raised five sons and two daughters. Zona was active in politics and served as Precinct and State Committee Woman for the Idaho Republican Party.
