Zola Lucille Skinner Devericks, 83, of Salem (Turtle Tree Fork/ Meadow Valley Community), passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born in Orlando, Braxton County on October 23, 1929 the daughter of the late Thomas and Agnes Skinner. On September 10, 1949, she was wed to Billy Junior Devericks with whom she enjoyed 59 years of loving marriage before his death on December 30, 2008. Their love for each other was evident by all who spent time with them. Their “nightly chats” was a topic that their family will always cherish. They are the parents of three daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Donna) Snider of Lake Floyd, Mrs. Steve (Dinah) Hannah of Jane Lew, and Debra Ross of Salem; eight grandchildren, Daniel (Annette) Webb, Jeffrey (Opal) Webb, Michelle (Joe) Westover, Andria Ross, Melissa Turner, Lindsay (Christian) Marsh, Jana (Jeff) Shepard and Jordan Greaver; ten great-grandchildren; Dakota and Zachariah Webb, Sam and Kate Westover, Logan Ross, Natasha and Freddie Deck, Hunter and Lucas Turner, and Kennedy Marsh; step-grandchildren, Glenn Snider, Derek (Melinda) Snider, Courtney Post, Stephanie Sorine, and Carrie (Scott) Cullen; four brothers, Oran, Forrest, Marvin, and Otto Skinner; three sisters, Thelma Price, Katherine Berry, and a special sister Jean Fletcher who was her devoted companion over the past six years; numerous nieces and nephews who she provided comfort and support to in times of need. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son Douglas Devericks in 1962 and son-in-law, Jeffrey Alan Ross in 2012; one sister, Oria Cayton; three brothers, Herbie, Ernest, and Scott Skinner. After she married Billy, they settled in the Meadow Valley Community where they were exceptional neighbors who helped so many in whatever the need might have been. She was a charter member of the Meadow Valley Farm Women’s Club (now Harrison County CEOS) where she held all offices in that organization over her lifetime membership. She was a PTA president and 4-H Leader of the Meadow Valley Club. She retired from the Harrison County Board of Education as a school bus driver.
