Zofia “Zosia” Awlasewicz, also fondly known as ‘Babcia’ of Ridgefield, Connecticut passed away at Danbury Hospital on August 31st, 2019.
She was born in Poland on October 27, 1945. As a young brave teenager she traveled to the United States to settle with relatives in Norwalk, Connecticut.
Zofia soon met her husband Richard, another native of Poland. The two created a full life with their children, extended family and friends, continuing Polish traditions and lifestyles. They frequented the Polish Club in Port Chester, New York for holidays, festivities and other special occasions. Many a night Zofia tore up the dance floor in Polka fashion.
Zofia was passionate about taking care of everyone and cooking for all! Her famous line was “Eat, Eat, Eat!” The door to her home in Brookfield CT was literally always wide open, an invitation for many growing up with her children to walk in and join the family at the table.
Many found themselves around her table eating an array of ethnic foods.There was always enough food to feed an army. Zofia is survived by children Anna Jette and husband Leo, Thomas Awlasewicz and wife Luanne and Ursula Burgess and husband Chris; grandchildren Nicole, Kylie, Cooper, Olivia and Luke; sister Barbara Skrehota and husband George and nephew Christopher Kozakiewicz and family. Zofia is predeceased by both parents Stanislaw and Stanislawa, husband Richard, loving grandson Joey and sister Krystyna.
Zofia was a formidable, big-hearted loving woman. She was always concerned about everyone’s well-being. She will be missed greatly by her family and
