Zephyr L. Mahon, daughter of the late Minnie and Jesse Williams, was born on September 6, 1919. The eldest of seven children, she grew up in Nash County, North Carolina until the family migrated to Brooklyn, New York. 

In 1939 Zephyr met her husband to be Garfield Mahon. They were married on September 6, 1941.

Zeph was known for being free spirited, kind hearted, energetic and matriarch to the Clary-Williams family.

Over the course of her life Zeph’s career spanned service in various social work areas, attendance teacher, mental hygiene, and medical and health agencies. She was also an integral part of the team that established New York City’s Medicaid program. She was on the scholarship committee for culinary students at the New York Technical College.  Her leisure time was spent at her home in Belmar, New Jersey.

Zephyr passed away the morning of December 18th in the comfort of her home. She leaves to cherish her memory grandsons David and William, several great grandchildren, five sisters and one brother, a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, other relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed and forever loved by many. The void that we feel today will be filled with her lasting love and strong spirit.
