Zella J. “Rusty” Harris, 84, of Mann Street, died at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 15, 2008) in her home. She was born July 2, 1924, in Attica, Ind., to Marvin Z. and Rosa Louise (Ford) Hickman. On April 24, 1943, she married Raymond M. Harris in Malden, Mass. He died in June 2005.

Mrs. Harris is survived by one son, Michael S. (Faith Anne) Harris of Jones; two daughters, Marilyn “Jo” (LeRoy) Pinkston of Sawyer and Suzanne E. “Sue” (Mic) Thompson of Sacramento, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert “Ed” (Betty) Hickman, Jimmie E. (Phyllis) Hickman and Ronald E. (Gloria) Hickman, all of Elkhart, Ind.; three sisters, Marcella “Marcie” (Vic) Suglia of Plainwell, Barbara A. Reynolds of Elkhart and Oveta “Veda” Shipman of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and her sister-in-law and special friend, Lena Mae Green of Berrien Springs.

She was preceded in death by one grandson and one brother, Clemmy Lew Hickman.

Mrs. Harris worked in production at H&A Selmer Band Instruments, Elkhart, for more than 14 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Newberg, Jones. She was a 1942 graduate of Madison Township High School.

She enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Harris loved to play cards, especially euchre. She was known for knitting slippers for people and was the keeper of family memories.
