March 16, 2000 – January 16, 2017

Zachary Wayne Thanheiser, 16 years old, from Boerne Texas, went to be with the Lord on 16 January 2017. He was two months shy of his 17th birthday and was a Junior at Boerne High School (BHS).

Zachary was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at the age of three. This did not stop him from having a very full life. He experienced more in 16 years than most will ever experience. He was born in Dahlonega GA, 16 March 2000 at the home of the US Army’s Mountain Ranger Camp. As a baby he “climbed” the 20’ practice fall wall and was a first time go. He spent the first five years of his life in Oahu, Hawaii. At first he was not a fan of sand or the ocean, but after a near death experience on the North Shore he fell in love with both.

Zachary also ascended Pikes Peak in Colorado, crossed the scariest bridge in the world at the Royal Gorge. He camped at the Grand Canyon and hiked the Northern and Southern trails scaring his mother with his no fear approach to the edges of the canyon.  He traveled to Washington DC, Gatlinburg, and swam in the Gulf of Mexico. He rode all the roller coasters at Sea World, and the Tennessee Tornado in Dollywood. He loved photography, art, remote control vehicles and video games.  His passion for life was increased when he participated in BHS FFA entomology and would not allow beneficial bugs in the house to be killed.  Zachary was born again; he had accepted the Lord as his Savior and was baptized completely of his free will.

He is survived by his mother Trish, father Jerome, his brother Justin, and his dog and best buddy Ranger.
