Dr. Yung Sup Kim of Quakertown died peacefully at home with his family on May 13, 2017. He was 90. Dr. Kim was a cardiologist and internist in Quakertown for more than 50 years. He was a physician who insisted upon making house calls. He was a devoted, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Dr. Kim was born in South Korea. Dr. Kim entered Seoul National University Medical School and graduated second in his class in 1952. He served in the U.S. 14th Field Hospital at the close of the war, treating and translating for North Korean prisoners of war. Because of his excellent academic record and his work with the 14th Field Hospital, he was recommended by the hospital’s Chief of Medicine for the American Medical Association’s Foreign Graduate Program, and was one of the few Koreans at that time to emigrate to the U.S. He received his residency training in internal medicine in St. Louis, Boston and finally Philadelphia. He completed his cardiology fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. To raise his family in the suburbs, Dr. Kim worked at the Tice Clinic in Quakertown before establishing his own private practice. Not only was Dr. Kim a highly-regarded physician, he was an accomplished athlete too. He excelled at tennis, golf, sailing and skiing. Dr. Kim is preceded in death by his first wife, Choong Ho. He is survived by his second wife, Esther Cho; daughters Addie Kim, Lincoln, MA and Julia Kim, New York; son Dr. Eugene Kim and his wife Gisele, Dallas, PA and grandchildren Christopher, Michael, Andrew, and Dylan.
