Young Chang Kim of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away on June 10, 2015 at the age of 80. He was born in Korea and came to the United States in 1954 for higher education. After obtaining MS and PhD degrees in Mining Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, he worked for Kennecott Copper Corporation in Salt Lake City, UT. In 1972, he joined the Department of Mining and Geological Engineering at the University of Arizona. During his distinguished career, he taught undergraduate and graduate courses, published multiple technical papers and short texts, and consulted and conducted short courses around the world. He was recognized internationally for his contributions to the application of operations research and computer modeling to the mineral industry. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling, photography, soccer and tennis. He is survived by his wife Heasil Kogi Hauser, daughters Emily Keim and Jennifer Kim, grandson Carson Keim, sister Kyung Ok Hatfield, and brother Eui Chang Kim, as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews in the US and Korea.
