Yaw Adu Boateng was born on Dec 15th 1947 to Opanim Kwabena Adu and Akosua Gyankromah in Osiem, Ghana, West Africa. Akosua was so happy that after having six girls she had finally had a son. Yaw was doted upon and treated like a king by his mother and his sisters. He was a nice and quiet young man who excelled in his studies.
Yaw began his educational journey at Osiem middle school. After completing his studies he gained admittance to Ofori Panin Secondary school and graduated with honors. He enjoyed classes and was always eager to learn something new. His mother thought it was important for a young man to be educated so she made sure that Yaw was able to attend and successfully complete his studies. After completing secondary school he moved to Accra and obtained a position at Lagon University. It was here that he met and married Felecia and together they had two children. They suffered the loss of their second child but raised their oldest Mavis Boateng together.
In 1974 a new opportunity arose and Yaw obtained a visa to come to America to continue his education. He landed in Lakeland, FL and stayed with his sister and her husband for a few years while attending the University of South, FL. In order to get money to support himself, his education and his family back home Yaw worked at the Kraft food factory. He graduated a few years later with a degree in Business and moved to Houston, TX to work in sales. After working in TX for two years he moved to the DC metropolitan area and once again joined his sister and her husband, Comfort and Stephen, before establishing himself in the area. Although his marriage to Felecia ended in divorce he continued to support his daughter Mavis.
Yaw was very personable and made friends wherever he landed. He established many lasting friendships along the way and always had love and respect for people. These were qualities instilled in him as a young boy that he carried throughout his life. His work in transportation throughout the years afforded him the privilege of crossing paths with many people, some of whom became life long friends.
On the morning of Saturday, June 27th Yaw was having trouble breathing. His sister was called and alerted of the situation. By 12 noon the rehabilitation center confirmed his passing. Yaw had transitioned from this life to the next. We are all grateful for the time shared with Yaw and the memories we now have to remind us of his life here on this side. We hope in the fact that he knew the Lord and is now at rest. Scripture says in Revelation 14:13, Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.”Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.” May he rest in perfect peace in the Lord.
