Yancey Elzie Smith, 100

It is with heavy hearts that the Smith Family shares the loss of their beloved father and grandfather Yancey Elzie Smith. He was born in Tallahassee, Florida on March 12, 1920, to Joseph Malachi and Minnie Francis Smith.

Mr. Smith proudly served our country in the United States Navy in WWII from 1941-to 1945 in the South Pacific. He lived in Lake Harbor, Florida for 70 years before moving to Okeechobee and leaving many dear friends (family).

Before he gave up driving, you would see him coming with a tag on the front of his car which read, “Let me tell you about my grandchildren.” He taught his children and grandchildren to always be honest, kind, caring, and compassionate. He was loved by many and has left a beautiful legacy.

Mr. Smith is preceded in death by the love of his life, Edna Myrle Henderson Folsom Smith; his parents; seven siblings; and his dear son-in-law Garold B. McKee.

He is survived by his daughters, Patricia McKee and Cheryl Lay ((Wayne), of Okeechobee; four grandchildren, Cary McKee (Fran), Ryan McKee (Becky), Bobby Lay (Amanda), Sarah Hall (Aaron), all of Okeechobee; eight great-grandchildren, Valerie Sleed (James), Brandon McKee (Samantha), Jerry McKee (Kali), Jacob McKee (Rachel), Presley and Ellie Lay, and Oliver and Hudson Hall; two great-great-grandchildren, Everleigh and Aria McKee; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
