Xada Elizabeth Swayze, age 99, of Lafayette, formerly of Rensselaer, passed away September 10, 2021. She was born in Hempstead, New York on February 14, 1922, to John Oscar and Elizabeth (Batt) Young, who preceded her in death. On March 7, 1936, in Vincennes, Indiana, she married Mount C. “Smock” Swayze who passed away on January 7, 1968. Xada attended the Newberry, Indiana public schools.

She worked as a dietary food trainer at St. Joseph’s College for 14 years and at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana for 23 years. Xada was passionate about antiques. She enjoyed attending antique shows and finding unique pieces and refurbishing them. She liked keeping her mind and body active. She enjoyed walking and other ways to hold onto her youth. She was also a kind and loving person, who had a beautiful personality and seemed to always keep a positive attitude. She loved her family and caring for them and sharing her experiences and always being there for her children.

Xada is survived by two children, Richard Swayze of Wolcott, IN, Judy (Allen) Shand of Kalamazoo, MI, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mount C. “Smock”, one daughter, Sara Dunn, and one brother, John Oscar Young, Jr.
