Wythial Edward Drake was born August 20, 1919, the son of Charles and Eunice (Ossler) Drake in Carson, Iowa, and passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2011, in Exira, Iowa.
Wythial grew up in Carson, Iowa, attending school there. He then served in the United States Army in WW II. After his honorable discharge, he married Marie Gaffey in Missouri, the couple settling in Atlantic, Iowa. Wythial was employed by the Atlantic School System in the maintenance and grounds keeping departments.
In his younger years, Wythial enjoyed traveling and ballroom dancing with Marie. He also enjoyed outdoor activities including, fishing, camping, boating and hunting. In his later years he enjoyed golfing and playing cards.
Wythial is survived by his son, Ron Drake and his wife, Donna of Exira, Iowa; his grandchildren, Dylan Drake of Atlantic, Iowa, Melanie Drake of Omaha, Nebraska, and Drew Fastenau of Omaha, Nebraska; his great-grandchildren, Ariyahna Drake of Atlantic, Haylee and Aaliyah Drake of Fremont, Nebraska, and Aariah Drake of Omaha, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Drake; his parents, Charles and Eunice Drake; four brothers; and one sister.
