Wyman W. Sheets, age 80, of 690 Franklin St. Carlyle, IL passed away Monday morning July 11, 2011 at his home with his family present.

Wyman is survived by his wife of 60 years June (Higgins) Sheets, and 8 children: Rick Sheets and wife Vickie of Carlyle, Sandy Maas and husband Donnie of Royalton, Cheryl Keith and husband Louis of Carlyle, Wyman Keith Sheets and wife Lori of Carlyle, Tammy Mason and husband Bob of Cleveland, OH, Kim Rohde and husband Chris of Carlyle, Kevin Sheets of Carlyle, and Micheal Sheets of Carlyle; 27 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren; two sisters: Dee Wright of Centralia, Rita Gillam and husband Kenneth of Christopher. Step-Brother Rev Carlos Bryant and wife Pat of Edwardsville. Sister-in-Law Bonnie Sheets of Wood River, Brother-in-Law Bill Heil Wood River.

He is preceded in death by his Parents Charles and Selma (Bryant) Sheets; A Brother Rev. Darrell Sheets; Sister Sheila Heil; and great grandson Nathaniel Maas.

Wyman served as a paratrooper in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was retiree of General Motors in St. Louis. He was a founding member of the Way of Life Church in Carlyle where he served on the board of trustees. Wyman was an auto mechanic, wood worker, and carpenter. He enjoyed traveling; he could fix anything that was broken. Mr. Sheets was known for his vegetable soup, quick wit, and big smile. He was a devoted Christian and loved his church family. Above all Wyman was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who traveled the country with his family on many summer vacations. He was a constant presence in the life of his family and countless others who called him grandpa. His door was never locked, his heart was big and open, you could always find a seat at his table, and he made everyone feel right at home.
