Obituary of Woody Erickson
Richard Clifford “Woody” Erickson died May 11, 2018 at the age of 83. Woody was born on October 29, 1934 in Minneapolis to Marian and Clifford Erickson. He attended elementary schools in Minneapolis and graduated in 1952 from South High School. He went on to graduate from the University of Minnesota in 1958. In 1956 he was a member of the U of M National Championship baseball team. In August, 1965 he married JoAnn Clark Erickson in Alexandria, MN. They were lucky to celebrate their 50th anniversary and this year would have been 53 years of a very special partnership. He worked for 3M for 33 ½ years. JoAnn was a school teacher. They retired early and spent many happy years traveling. They visited all 50 states and also visited 50 countries. They traveled by R.V., riverboat, cruise lines and by travel groups, especially Elderhostel. They took turns picking destinations; the mutual best was New Zealand. Woody enjoyed golf with his high school and college baseball buddies. His hobbies included collecting sheet music and framing several pieces. Woody embraced our neighborhood community. Traveling was one favorite in retirement but what he liked best was sitting on the deck and visiting with a cup of coffee or glass of wine. He and JoAnn have had a love affair with their neighborhood friends. Woody also enjoyed the Clark cabin in Alexandria and those neighbors and cousins. He is survived by his partner and wife JoAnn of 52 years. They had a magical journey together. His only sister Jean Coleman (John), nephew Tom Howell and wife Charlene, Grandniece Heather Bow (Jeremy, Grandnephew James Howell. In their friendly journey through life they maintained many great relationships, especially with the Seablooms-Beverly, Mary, Jim, John Lewis and Grant, Eric, Elizabeth, Liam and Marjorie and Campbells-JoAnn (Brian Rice) and Lori (Kevin Karch). We called their children our inherited children. We recommend friendship as a lifelong goal.
