Wiona P. Mitchell, lovingly known as “Tiny”, entered eternal rest on Saturday, September 30, 2017 in Elkridge, MD.
Born Catherine Wiona Page on June 16, 1928 in Cumberland, Maryland, she was the youngest daughter of the late Gertrude (Davis) and Jesse O. Page, Sr. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters: Helen (Woods) , Jesse O. Page Jr., James T. Paige, Sr., Frank M. Page Sr., Gertrude V. (Flurry) Arthur K. Page, Fisher S. Page, Mayola P. (Banks), William R. Page, and Marion E. Page.
Her formal education was received in Cumberland, Maryland graduating with high honors from Carver High School in 1947. She attended Teachers State College (now Bowie State University) and earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree in 1955. Her career in education began in Queen Anne’s County, MD (Grasonville). She also taught in Chesapeake, Virginia before moving permanently to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She began working for the Pittsburgh Public Schools around 1963 and continued educating children until she retired in 1990. Tiny continued to encourage the success of children in her family and community until she gained her wings on September 30, 2017.
She leaves to mourn her departure from life one brother, Charles Marvin Page of Cerritos, CA, two sisters-in-law, Oddie Page (TX) and Selma Page (CA), and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
