Winfield Scott Lantz, known to family and friends as “Sam”, age 69, of Sun Valley Community, Clarksburg, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at his home after a brief illness. Sam was born in Philippi on July 23, 1940 a son of the late William Gordon Junior and Lucy Pitman Lantz of Philippi. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dana Lee Lloyd Lantz; one daughter, Nikki Gibson and her husband Jason, Rosemont; two sons, Michael Lantz and his wife Shawna, Clarksburg, and Major J. Scott Lantz and his wife Leeanne, Palmyra, TN; seven grandchildren, Nikolaus Rogers, Ashley, Austin, Allyson and Aidan Gibson, all of Rosemont, and Zyan and Beckham Lantz, Clarksburg. He is also survived by three brothers and their wives, Myrtle and Dale Nestor, Beallsville, MD, William Job and Carolyn Lantz, Philippi, Paul and Sandra Lantz, Belington, Judy and Robert Arbogast, Belington, and Jerry and Jeni Lantz, Philippi; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Michael Lantz. Sam graduated from Philippi High School in 1958. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of the 32 degree Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Clarksburg Lodge #155 Shriner’s Nemesis group, and the First United Methodist Church. He worked for Erwin Supply Company for 38 years and Pittson Coal and Repair King for 15 years. He also owned his own small trailer sales business. He loved to be outside and was always busy working on something. His favorite saying was “Keep the shovel hot”. Sam had many, many friends and gave his time and help freely to anyone who needed it. He had a huge heart and loved his wife, children and grandchildren with all his being. He will be missed tremendously.
