Wilmer “Speed” Bachman, 87, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018, at West Bend Health and Rehab in West Bend, Iowa.
Speed was born to Peter and Florence (Noeth) Bachman on December 22, 1930, in Arcadia, Iowa. In 1940 he moved with his family from Arcadia to West Bend. After high school Speed joined the United States Navy. He saw many places while in the Navy, including two tours of Vietnam. In 1970, Speed retired from the Navy. After coming back to West Bend, he worked at West Bend International for several years.
Speed’s hobbies were fishing, trapping turtles, making turtle soup, putting puzzles together, and making fishing lures. In February 1987, Speed and the love of his life Mary DePue went to Las Vegas, Nevada, and got married. Speed was also a member of the West Bend American Legion Post 151. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary in 2015, brothers Marvin (Buck), Don and Virgil (Petey), and sisters Minerva Montag, Norma Schuller, and Verene Maidment. Speed is survived by his sister Rita Hansen of Whittemore, IA, brother Ray Bachman of Beloit, WI, sisters-in-law Karen Bachman of Mallard, Jane Bachman, and Della Bachman of Portland, OR, and many nieces and nephews.
