On June 30, 1967, Wilmer married his love, Judie Mae Scott. After many years, they adopted Michael John into their family.
Wilmer was predeceased by his wife, Judie, his mother, Lydia, and his father, Max. He is survived by his son, Michael, his grandsons, Landon and Brady, his daughter-in-law, Heather, his brother Claren, and his sister-in-law, Jane.
