Salem Wilma Mae Shaffer Herrod, 84, of Marshville Community died Wednesday, February 16, 2011 following an extended illness. She was born at Pickens in Randolph County on July 15, 1926, the daughter of the late Fredrick and Ian Prichard Shaffer. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Yeager and Patty McHurin, both of California. She is survived by a sister, Elta Leeson of Hawthorne, Nevada. On October 23, 1942, she was married to the Rev. Dewain L. Herrod, who survives. They have been married 68 years and are the parents of four children; Rev. Stanley Lee Herrod and wife Sylviann of Rock Camp Rd., Paul L. Herrod and wife Sharon, Rickey D. Herrod and wife Beth and Cheryl C. Swiger, all of Marshville. Her son-in-law, Lee Swiger preceded her in death as well as three grandchildren and her nephew, Jimmy Herrod. Mrs. Herrod was a member of Chiefton Chapel Baptist Church. She excelled in making dolls and had a large collection. She liked crafts of all kinds. She was a loving wife and mother and was grandmother to fifteen grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.
