Wilma A. Sweet (nee Sibley), 93, of Burton, OH, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, June 17th, 2023 at Ohman Family Living at Blossom in Huntsburg, OH. She was born in Painesville, OH on November 6th, 1929 to the late Otis W. and Gladys (Dean) Sibley. Wilma is once again reunited with her loving husband, Graydon F. Sweet Jr., who died August 1st, 1994.
She graduated from Painesville Harvey High School in 1947. In 1949 she and Graydon married and then had two daughters. She and her family relocated to Burton and together opened Sweet’s Hardware Store which they operated from 1959 – 1969. She then became a payroll officer and spent 27 years at the West Geauga Board of Education before retiring.
Wilma loved baking apple pies, of which she was named Grand Champion twice at the Geauga County Fair. She also served as President of the Burton Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
She enjoyed tending to her rose garden and also square dancing. Wilma was part of the Circle 8 square dance team that appeared on the Channel 5 Landmark Jamboree back in the 1950s.
Wilma will be greatly missed by: her daughter, Jennifer Schweit; grandchildren, Erin (John Kraker) DeFisher, Nick (Amanda) DeFisher; great-grandchildren, Madeline Lant, Andrew Lant, Hallie DeFisher, soon to be great-granddaughter Kraker, and many family and friends.
She is preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Graydon; daughter, Sylvia DeFisher; and sister, Kay Hyppa.
