Mrs Willie Mae Miles, a native of Norfolk, VA and a resident of San Diego for over 47 years passed away on June 27 at her residence. She was employed with the Federal Government as an accountant.
Willie Mae Miles, affectionately known as “Mae” or “Jo” by family and friends, was born August 9, 1939 in Norfolk, Virginia. She was the sixth of nine children born to loving parents, Willie and Elizabeth Jones. She received her formal education in Norfolk, where she attended Booker T. Washington High School.
In December of 1961, she met and married Willie Charles Miles of the United States Navy. Their union was blessed with two beautiful children, Vanessa and Michael. In 1968, the family relocated to San Diego, California compliments of the United States Navy.
In the summer of 1973, she came to know Jesus Christ and accepted Him as her Lord and Saviour and was baptized at Bethany Deliverance Temple under the spiritual guidance of the late Bishop Vernon L. Lampkin. She became grounded as a prayer warrior and grew in wisdom, faith and perseverance. As time went on, she affectionately became known as “Mother Miles”. There was nothing that made her more content than reading the Word of God and being in His presence. She never hesitated to tell the truth and share the Gospel. Through living a godly life, the Lord carried her through various trials and tribulations; yet through steadfastness and her trust in God, she conquered adversity. One of her most precious achievements in her life was seeing the growth of God in her family, whom she loved dearly. She served as an anchor, always providing them with wisdom and words of encouragement.
Willie Mae was known for her loving, caring and giving nature. She was devoted to her family, whom she loved unconditionally. She adored her children and her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
On Saturday, June 27, 2015, surrounded by loved ones, Willie Mae Miles was called from earthly labor to eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her, great-grandson, Jahsan Morrison-Cooley; her parents, three brothers and three sisters.
She leaves behind, a godly legacy: daughter, Vanessa Morrison and her husband, Pastor George Morrison; her son, Michael Miles and his wife, Katrina; her brother, Frank Jones and his wife, Ruth; her sister, Ruby Lewis; her grandchildren, Latasha Drake and her husband, Michael, Michelle Morrison, Angela Morrison, Christine Houston and her husband, Roscoe, Brittney Miles, Felisha Miles and Macaiah Miles; great-grandchildren, Monye, Aasanti, Nasir, Jhazmine, Jayda, Silas, Naima, Kingston, Ezra and Zuri and a host of other relatives and many friends.
