Willie was loving husband and father with a kind, gentle soul. He was born Willie Richard Lewis on October 3, 1925, in the city of Harvest, Al. He attended Parker High School in Birmingham, AL.

 

He was a veteran of the Korean War and received an honorable discharge in 1954, after he was wounded by enemy fire.  He received two bronze service stars, a United Nations Service medal, and a National Defense Service medal for his tour of duty.

 

He settled down in New York and married Eloise, the love of his life in 1957, after a five-year courtship.  He had two daughters.  He retired from the MTA (Metropolitan Transit Authority) after 20 years of service.

In his spare time, he liked to be outdoors. He loved gardening, lawn care, work search books, jigsaw puzzles, cooking out and watching football and baseball games. He was an avid New York Yankee fan and New York Giant fan.

Willie was survived by his wife of 65 years, Eloise Lewis and his daughters, Beverly, and Cheryl.
