Willie E. Abston Jr., a native of St. Stephens and a resident of Henderson, Nev., spent more than 55 years in Southern California and moved to Henderson, Nev., last year to enjoy retirement. He passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Willie was a beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, who dedicated his entire life to helping others and working hard to provide for his family. He celebrated a renewed relationship with his Lord and Savior, which brought about dedication to his faith.

A Vietnam War veteran, he served with honor in the United States Army for two years. Willie retired from the United States Postal Service following more than 30 years of service as a city carrier. He was recognized and awarded on multiple occasions for his dedication and beyond reproach customer service. Willie was also a successful entrepreneur. He was well known all over San Dimas and the surrounding communities for Abston Gardening’s ability to enhance curb appeal.

He was born on Feb. 1, 1945 to Willie E. Abston Sr. and Elouise Howell in St. Stephens. 

Preceding him in death are his parents; siblings, Alfred, Theotis, Ella and Augustine.

Willie is survived by his children, Willie T. (Carmen) Abston, Charron Abston and Cammi Abston (Ken) Bibbs; grandchildren, Niles Abston, Niel Abston, Kendal Bibbs and McKenzie Bibbs; fur babies, Bess and Gus; mother of his children, Nettie Abston; partner, Susan Powers; nine siblings; with a host of family and friends.
