Overseer Willie David Wimbley, Sr. was born June 9, 1949 in Barlow, Alabama to Gene and Wilma Wimbley. He was the eldest of four born to this union.
Overseer Wimbley accepted Christ at an early age at the Church of God Pentecostal, where he remained a faithful member until God led him elsewhere. In 1972, he was the first deacon elected at the Church of God Pentecostal (Butler, AL) under Pastor Leroy Henry, along with Mr. Paul Usher. In 1978, he answered his call to ministry, where he remained for 42 years. He was a dedicated and hard worker to the City of Butler for 26 years, Superintendent of Sanitation (Jackson, AL) for 6 years, and Bedford Pines Apartment until he retired.
On March 18, 1970, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Geraldine P. Wimbley, and to this union of 50 years, 7 children were born. Together they held a long lasting, loving, and godly relationship.
He was truly a man of God and love. On Tuesday, February 11, 2020, God called his faithful servant home for an eternal rest. Overseer Wimbley was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Wilma Wimbley; sister, Ruby (Willie J.) Ruffin.
He loved to fish, cut grass, tinker, call and joke around with family and friends; travel with “Lucille,” his guitar, around the country, and bring laughter and joy to all who knew him. If you didn’t find him on the porch, Ken’s Auto, or at the fork on his four-wheeler, you were sure to find him at someone’s fish camp, enjoying some CATFISH!
He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving wife, Geraldine P. Wimbley; four sons, Steve (Burnette) Wimbley, Kenneth Wimbley, Willie David (Asha) Wimbley, Jr. and Cornelius Coleman; two daughters, Latisa (Calvin) Spears and Pamela (Ronnie) Spears; two godsons, Marcus (Charlikis) Keeton and Lashawn (Jessica) Hardy; seven granddaughters, Falencia Williams, Miatia Eddie, Kashae Spears, Keena Wimberly, Destiny Anderson, Ta’Naya Wimberly and Amaya Carswell; two grandsons, Marquel Spears and Willie David Wimberly III; three great-granddaughters, Za’Haiti Davidson, Hailey Owens and Kinsley Jones; two sisters, Melvina (late Henry) Adams and Helen (Michael) Mitchell; one brother, Marvin (Tiffany) Whitted; two dear friends, Raymond Duff and Marvin Fox; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
