William Wayne McGee Sr., 87, of Woodson, died Saturday, Mar. 11, 2017, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born June 20, 1929, in Jacksonville, the son of John Wayne and Thelma Louise Arenz McGee. He married Marilyn Ellen McNeely on Nov. 27, 1949, in Jacksonville and she preceded him in death on Nov. 26, 2003.
He is survived by two sons and one daughter, William W. “Bill” (Patricia Ann) McGee Jr. of Grand Ledge, MI, Cheryl Lynn McGee of Woodson and Robert D. “Bob” (Vickie) McGee of Woodson; five grandchildren, John T. (Megan) Campbell, Travis S. (Christie) Campbell, Jodi McGee, Sarah McGee and Tana Wallace; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, Shaun Wallace.
Mr. McGee was a 1947 graduate of Jacksonville High School. He worked as a truck driver in the Jacksonville area for many years, and served as a Police Officer for the City of Jacksonville in the early 1950’s. He then retired from the Village of Woodson as the Waste Plant Operator. Bill was a member of the Community Worship Church of Murrayville, and had been a member of the Woodson Volunteer Fire Department and the Woodson Lions Club. He enjoyed mowing and watching wildlife.
