William “Bill” Wallace Kelly, 92 of Morgantown, WV formerly of Reedsville, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Mon General Hospital with family by his side. He was born April 20, 1921 in Masontown, WV, son of the late Benjamin Harry and Jessie E Carrico Kelly. William graduated from Valley High School and served in the US Army during WWII in Germany as a Platoon Sgt. in the 300rd Infantry in charge of a group of 41 combat infantry men in battle. He received The Good Conduct Metal, The Purple Heart Medal, The American Theater Ribbon, The European African Medal, The Eastern Theater Ribbon and a WWII Victory Ribbon. He co-owned and operated the Reedsville Dairy Queen from 1964-1973. He also worked at Dupont in Parkersburg for five years as a laborer. William loved reading the newspaper, scratch off tickets, talking about WWII and watching and discussing politics. In later years he spent many contented hours feeding birds, squirrels and deer. Surviving are four children, Patricia S Shrout, Morgantown, Carolyn L Buchman and husband Larry, Morgantown, William L Kelly and wife Tammy, Kingwood, Richard A Kelly, Reedsville; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Hupp, Parkersburg, Dorothy Fortney, Batavia, OH; two brothers, John Kelly and wife Dorothy, Florida, Jim Kelly and wife Doris, Columbus, OH. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Harvey R Shrout Jr., three sisters, Mary Browning, Helen Amtower and Eleanor Gilmore, one brother in infancy, Howard Kelly.
