Woonsocket – William W. “Bill” Monteiro 100, passed away peacefully in the Oakland Grove Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Jennie (Bokoski) Monteiro. They were married for 53 years until her death in 2001.
Born in Woonsocket, son of the late Andrew and Corona (Labonte) Monteiro.
Mr. Monteiro lived in Bellingham, MA for 61 years prior to moving back to Woonsocket.
He worked as a Licensed Electrician for Teknor Apex in Pawtucket, retiring in 1986.
He was a former member of Club Lafayette, the Veterans of Foreign Affairs and an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police and served as past President. A lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #850 since 1956 and was one of its oldest members. He was also recipient of the Woonsocket Jaycees Outstanding Young Man Award in 1955. He served on the board of directors of the Woonsocket Chapter of the American Red Cross from 1976-1983. He also served on the board of directors of the Council of Aging in Bellingham, MA VFW Post # 6342 Slatersville, RI. Past President of Castle Hill Golf Course and a member of Woonsocket Country Club.
Bill enjoyed traveling , cruises, ballroom dancing, bowling, and playing golf.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews and his godchildren, JoAnne Turgeon, Christine Brissette, Donna Fisher, and William Harnois. He was also the brother of the late Anna Garcia and Louise Toupin.
The family would like to thank the Staff at Oakland Grove for their kindness, compassion, and wonderful care given to Bill during the time he was a resident there and also to Beacon Hospice for their care and kindness that was given to him.
