William W. Bull, age 88, longtime resident of Milford and beloved husband of the late Helen D’Amico Bull, passed away at Milford Health Care Center on Thursday, August 18, 2011. Born on February 6, 1923 in Springfield, MA, he was the son of the late Milan Cronan and Emilie Peterson Bull. Bill graduated from Milford HS, the Institute of Applied Science in Chicago and the University of New Haven. During WW II, he served with pride and honor in the US Navy aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Solomon in the Pacific.
Bill was with the Milford Police Department for 33 years, the last thirteen of which he led the Department as Chief. During his tenure, he was the first policeman in the history of the Milford PD to receive the highest Department award, the Medal of Honor for valor.
Bill was very civic minded as he served as a member of the Milford Police Benevolent Assoc, Knights of Columbus, Narcotic Enforcement Officers Assoc., South Central Chiefs of Police, New England, Connecticut and International Associations of Chiefs of Police and the Police Anchor Club. In his later years, Bill devoted all his time, with love and compassion, as caregiver to his beloved wife Helen.
He is survived by his two loving daughters Jacqueline C. Bull of Manila, Philippines and Lisa Bull DiLullo of Milford; three grandchildren Jennifer Oakley, Christopher Grove and David R. Smith, Jr., six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his brothers Milan J. and Theodore Bull and a sister, Emilie B. Ghioni.
