William Victor ”Bill” Watkins, 82, Anderson, died September 11, 2005 at St. Johns Health System, Anderson Indiana after a sudden illness.

He was born June 16, 1923 in Anderson, Indiana, and was a lifelong Anderson resident. He retired from Delco Remy Division of General Motors in 1982. He was a 1941 graduate of Anderson High School.

He served his country in the US Army during WWII. He attended Army Specialized Training Program at the University of Wyoming and later transferred to the European Operation where he was wounded in action in 1944 and for which he received the Purple Heart.

He was a member of Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis and the Murat Temple Shrine. He was also a teacher in the adult vocational school and was the past president of the Industrial Management Club.

He is survived by his wife whom he married September 16, 1945, June Hawkins Watkins; four children, Kathy Vaughn, John Lynn Frazier Watkins and Karen Barry Miller all of Anderson and Connie David Heinke Watkins of Elmhurst, Illinois; a brother, George Robert Ruth Watkins of Muncie; a sister, Patricia Richison of Alexandria; four grandchildren, Amy Chad Edmonson, Gretchen Cory Smith, April Myers and Matthew Watkins; five great grandchildren; one niece; two nephews; and many loving friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle Victor & Clara Benton Watkins.
