VANOSDOL, PFC WILLIAM ZACHARY PFC William Zachary VanOsdol, age 23, of Pinson, passed away on August 19, 2009, while serving his country in Ad Diwaniyah, Iraq. William originally from Charleston, South Carolina, joined the Army in 2007 and was currently a member of the Maintenance Support Team from Company B., 172nd Support Battalion of Schweinfurt, Germany and was attached to the 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry Reginment at Forward Operating Base Echo, Ad Diwaniyah, Iraq. William was preceded in death by his father, William Kent VanOsdol; grandfather, Leland C. VanOsdol; grandfather, Henry Ervin Murphree; grandmother, Arlene Dirks Finch; and great-uncle, Neil Dirks. William is survived by his loving mother, Susan Murphree VanOsdol, of Pinson; and sisters, Brandi VanOsdol Kennedy (James) of Trafford, and Sabrina VanOsdol Mierholtz (Tony) of Montgomery; and his “4-legged brother” Bubba. William will also be missed by his three nephews, Devin (5), William (3), and Chase (2). He will also be missed by his Grandpa Robert Finch, and grandmother, Barbara Stegall Murphree, and his many aunts, uncles, and cousins. His passing has also left a large hole in the lives of his numerous friends, classmates and fellow soldiers. The family would also like to give a special thanks to Sgt. Thane Rose for escorting William back to us; and SFC Dynetha Childs and Sofia Bledsoe for all of their assistance. And a special thanks to the US Army for the great care they gave the family through this trying time.
