William Thomas Shackelford was born on October 19, 1930, in Lawrence County, Alabama to the late Thomas and Annie Strong Shackelford.  He fulfilled his purpose in this life on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Mt. Royal Towers, Birmingham, AL.

Rev. Shackelford confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor A. Rice where he served faithfully. He then joined David Temple Church in the early years and after retiring returned under the leadership of Bishop Curtis Foster.

He was very instrumental in serving his country, community and church.  He was a United States Army Veteran and served in World War II.  After his military service, he worked over 20 plus years at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant. He also served as the Worshipful Master of Pointer’s Chapel Masonic Lodge #774 of Spring Creek.  Rev. W.T Shackelford was called into the ministry and pastored several churches in the surrounding area. His pastoral assignments included:  St. John in Florence, AL, Mt. Olive in Hillsboro, AL, Nazareth of Barton, AL and he retired from North Courtland Primitive Baptist Church in North Courtland, AL after serving faithfully.

W.T was a farmer in the community and raised many vegetables that he shared with his neighbors and friends. He devotedly served the Lord, his family and community until his health failed him in 2002 suffering from serious mental illness. We will miss his caring smile and joyful laughter.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mollie Johnson-Shackelford, his parents, two brothers; Sylvester Garth and Anderson Garth and two sisters; Lizzie Mae Shackelford and Annie Bell Garth.

T) Shackelford’s homegoing will forever be cherished by his family and love ones: nine daughters Mollie Pointer (Jonathan) and Virginia Boykin both of Hillsboro, AL; Addie Shackelford, Reajeana Shackelford and Janease Elliott (Bobby)  all of Decatur, AL; Sarah Williams (McKeever) of Trinity, AL; Teresa Shackelford of Boston MA; Christine Graves (James) and Vivian McNeil both of Savannah, GA; seven sons, Willie Shackelford (Darlene)of Chattanooga, TN, Carnell Shackelford and Jerry Shackelford both of Hillsboro, AL; Ronnie Nance (Linda) and Hollis Shackelford both of Decatur, AL; Thomas Lee Shackelford of Trinity, AL and Paul Shackelford (Lekeysha) of Florence, AL three sisters, Alberta Turner (Douglas) of Detroit MI, Sarah Garth and Lucy Mae Russell both of Huntsville, AL; two brothers; Shelby Garth  and Henry Garth both of Detroit, MI and Levolia Davis of Decatur AL; 37 grandchildren, 59 great-grand-children ,8 great-great grandchildren; two faithful cousins, Louise Goodlow and Betty Pointer; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, church members and friends.
