William T. Palmer, age 86, of Wichita Falls, Texas, formerly of Clarksburg died on October 2, 2016 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was born January 20, 1930 in Anmoore, West Virginia; the son of the late Vance Swisher and Helen (Behres) Palmer.
Bill attended St. Mary’s Catholic School. Growing up he always did chores before going to school which included milking the cow (his least favorite job). He worked in the fields, picked fruits and vegetables and took care of the garden. He played basketball and football in high school. At age 16, he went to work for PPG part time until he graduated. Bill continued to work at the Clarksburg, West Virginia PPG plant until it closed in 1974 when he transferred to the Wichita Falls, TX plant. He also worked in Shreveport, Louisiana and Henrietta, Oklahoma when work was slow in Clarksburg. He spent most of his time as a glass cutter and retired as a supervisor. He always enjoyed his work. Bill worked for PPG for 42 years and retired in 1988. Bill was never one to sit still and embarked on buying and selling antiques as a hobby and worked with Johnny Choate and other auctions. His other passion was playing golf. He had a standing date to play with good friends. He enjoyed watching his wife, Alta Mae, continue to improve her golf game until her health kept her from playing. His arthritis finally stopped him, and he always missed playing. He also loved his dog, Tyson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Vance and George Palmer; and a sister, Eloise (Palmer) Jurick.
Bill is survived by his wife, Alta Mae Bush Palmer; Bill’s first wife, Elinor F. (Martin Palmer) Schetzel; daughter, Theresa Marie (Palmer) Paugh & her husband, Ed of Jane Lew, WV; Bill’s second wife, Margaret (Williams Martin) Palmer of Clarksburg, WV; son, Vincent Shane Palmer & his wife, Cindy of Greenbrier, Arkansas; grandchildren include; John & his wife, Jennifer (Smouse), Jason & his wife, Ronda (Gibson) Paugh, Makayla, Faith and Rebecca Palmer.
Bill has numerous step children, Sharon Middleton of Pensacola, Florida, Raymond Martin of Clarksburg, WV, Starrla Levine of Reisterstown, Maryland, Sara “Kevin” Davis of Lost Creek, WV, Leanne B. Cottrell of Wichita Falls, Texas, Brenda B. Delaney of Canyon, Texas; step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; step great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
