William (Vasilios) Sofokleous, 86, of 139 E. Mitchell Ave., Cheshire, passed away Dec. 1, 2007 in Mid State Medical Center. He was the husband of Pelagia (Peggy) Mastrandonas Sofokleous. Mr. Sofokleous was born in Cyprus April 18, 1921, son of the late Sophacles & Rebecca Sofokleous (St. John). Before coming to this country, he served with the British Armed Forces for 6 years during World War II and saw action against the German Army in North Africa. He owned and operated Bill’s Lunch on Forbes Ave. in the Annex and also worked at the Hiway Diner. He was a member of New Britain Chapter 117, Order of AHEPA. Beside his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Marina (James) Benas of Cheshire; 2 grandchildren, Nicole & Christopher Benas and several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Harry and 4 sisters, Fostera, Eleni, Daphne & Elpiniki.
