Scott is survived by his three children: daughter Tamera and her husband Richard Moore, son Shaine and his wife Helen and daughter Tonya Blackwell and her significant other Jody Butler. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Scott was born in Elida, New Mexico on December 6, 1943.
He attended grade school in Elida and graduated from Fort Sumner High School. During school Scott was a standout athlete in football, basketball and baseball. He was a star in American Legion baseball and in order to play baseball at New Mexico Military Institute, (NMMI) in Roswell, New Mexico, he earned a football scholarship. He was an All-American baseball player at NMMI among several other honors. Scott maintained many relationships with numerous friends, teammates and his college baseball coach.
He was especially proud of his time and accomplishments while attending NMMI. Scott was especially fond of the time he spent helping his father Cliff run his registered Angus cattle ranch in Elida. He enjoyed hunting and calf roping. After starting a family with then wife Kathy, Scott took pride in being a dad, attending his kids’ sporting events and supporting them in their school and activities.
Later, Scott endured an extended career in the copper mining industry until his retirement. Scott was a multi-generation Mason for over 20 years. In the years leading up to retirement and after, Scott enjoyed playing golf with the “Noon Group” as a member at Rio Mimbres Country Club and looked forward to the Deming Invitational and Club Championship and other various golf tournaments. In recent years, Scott looked forward to hosting his “Reunion Group” of high school buddies in Deming to play a few rounds of golf and reminisce for a weekend in October. Scott will be deeply missed by his family, friends and community.
