William Robert Annelin, age 87, of Midland passed away on Wednesday afternoon, December 10, 2008 at the Brookdale Senior Living Home (formerly Alterra).

He was born in Negaunee, Michigan on November 7, 1921 to the late Everett and Vera (Anderson) Annelin. William grew up in Negaunee and graduated from Negaunee High School. He was proud to have served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Two of his service years were spent in Europe as a combat infantryman. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and other battles across Europe. When the war ended, he married Marjorie Tripp in Ishpeming on July 3, 1946. He then attended Northern Michigan University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He later received his Master’s Degree in Education Administration from the University of Michigan. In 1950 he started his teaching career in Pellston, Michigan. In 1954 the family moved to Midland where he taught school at Plymouth Elementary. In 1964 he became principal of State Street School and later he was principal at Eastlawn Elementary until he retired in 1983.

He and Marjorie had three sons, James (Mary) Annelin, Thomas (Catherine) Annelin, and Ronald (Ruth) Annelin. They also have seven grandchildren, Jason, Sarah, Niles, Michael, Elisa, Moira, and Quinn; two great grandchildren, Alan “A.J.” and Annie. He is also survived by a half brother and half sister, Vernon and Karen.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two younger brothers, Donald (Clare) Annelin and Richard (Judy) Annelin.

William always loved being with his family. He also enjoyed working with the children and teachers at his schools.

After retirement he and his wife traveled to many places around the world. William also enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, and spending time at his cottage in Les Cheneaux. He will be missed dearly as he was a very caring man.
