William “Posey” Smith age 87, of Newnan passed away Tuesday December 8th, 2020 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Posey was born October 1st, 1933 in Rayburn, Alabama. Posey was one of ten children of Luther and Lizzy Smith. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his seven siblings and his beloved wife Mary Sue Smith “Mimi.” Posey has four children, Brenda Smith Pressley, Ricky Smith, Stanley Smith and his wife Angy, Dennis Smith and his wife Torra. Posey was blessed with eight wonderful grandchildren, Chris, Candace, Steven, Heather, Justin, Tyler, Kristen and Makenna. All grandchildren lovingly called him “Pop.” He also was blessed with 5 great grandchildren, as well as one great-great grand child. You could always hear Posey singing his favorite tune, “down on the river, where I was born and raised”, he would always be his happiest singing, such a joyful happy soul. At the age of 17 Posey began a career in tile masonry. He continued this career until the great age of 78. His love for tile design and work, made him widely popular as word spread of the uniqueness of his craftsmanship. He shared his love of tile masonry will all three of his sons, whom continued on his legacy. Often even working with the same families that Posey once did, years ago! Posey was a quiet gentle soul, and quite a simple man who loved his family greatly. Posey had a special love for animals. He loved his dogs, horses, and shared his love of chickens with his granddaughter Makenna who continues to this day to carry on that legacy. Posey also was an avid fisherman, tinkering with his farmall tractor, building things, taking walks into the woods taking in gods land were a few of his favorite things.
