William Patrick Maloney, 88, of Blackstone Village, Meriden, husband of Gertrude (Malloy) Maloney, died peacefully June 16th at Yale New Haven Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Hartford, he was the youngest son of the late John J. and Maria (Durkin) Maloney and had lived in Meriden for 18 years moving from Cromwell. Mr. Maloney grew up in the frog hollow section of Hartford and graduated from Immaculate Conception School and Hartford Public High School Class of 1932B, where he was an honor student and football star nicknamed “Moon”. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the USS Astoria and was then employed by Colt Firearms, where he met his beloved wife. In 1945, he joined the Hartford Fire Dept. retiring as Captain after 33 years. He was a former Cub and Boy Scout Master in Hartford Troop105 at St.
