On Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 11:00 am, William Morrison, known to most as Bill, age 95, surrounded by his family, went home to be with his Lord and Savior and to meet up with his beloved wife of 65 years, Edith. While we rejoice knowing he is in Heaven greeting a lifetime of treasured friends and family, those who are left behind will miss his calm spirit and gentle nature.
William was born in Irvington, NY right before the Great Depression on April 23, 1927. He grew up in a small town along the Hudson River where he cultivated many friendships that would last his lifetime. After graduating from high school, duty called and he served as a private in the US Army beginning in July 1945 until his discharge in 1950.
In 1951, he married his sweetheart, Edith, and they raised five children providing them all with the foundations for a Christ-centered life. He worked hard to support his family over the years, most notably at Sanborn Map Company where he was a map maker and afforded the opportunity to travel all over the United States. He also held true to his promise to his mother to care for his father in his last years. “Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.” Exodus 20:12.
After relocating to the Chicago area in 1981 for work, he humbly and faithfully served the Lord alongside his fellow brethren at Palos Hills Christian Assembly. In later years, he was a greeter at Walmart South Elgin where he was beloved and honored God in all those he came upon whether in word or deed.
It is not often that one can say that a person was loved by all, but William most certainly was. Dad/Grandpa: we will miss your countless stories of a life well-lived all told without missing a beat and your ready smile. Thank you for all your sacrifices over the years. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:21
One of Dad’s last pieces of advice to his children was “Be kind to everyone.” We will, Dad, thanks to your example.
William is survived by his five children Bruce, Robert (Sue), Sandra (Mark) Morley, Kathryn, and Sharon (Greg) Frick; five grandchildren Alexandra, Cheryl, Alexander, Christian, and Richard; and special pets, Asher, Lucy, Blue, Daisy, Toast, and Jack.
