William “Leonard” Wilkes, 73, lost his battle with cancer on September 25, 2015, at the Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee, Florida.
The son of Broward N. and Lizzie Sapp Wilkes, he was born in Cottondale, Florida. He joined the United States Navy in 1960, serving as a Machinery Repairman 3rd Class on the USS Arcadia during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. He was a surveyor for the State of Florida, Department of Transportation, for 42 years. For 33 years, he and his wife owned and operated Len’s Ceramics.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Tony Glenn Wilkes, and a grandson, and is survived by his wife of 33 years, Linda Robison Wilkes, his children, Leonard N. Wilkes (Gail), Elizabeth D. Wilkes (Dwayne), James E. Delaney (Alison), Jason R. Delaney (Amy); his siblings, Donald Wilkes (Martha), all of Tallahassee, Michael Wilkes (Jeannie) of North Carolina, Linda Wood (Ed) of Chipley; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was blessed by close family friends Joey (Eva) and Jamie Vickers, of Tallahassee, as well as a host of other treasured friends and family.
