William L. Ohr, 85, of Yalesville, departed this life on Thursday, June 7, 2012. He was the husband of the late Elle (Bakanas) Ohr for fifty years.
William was born on April 28, 1927, in Wallingford, CT, to the late Andrew and Margaret (Law) Ohr.
In his earlier years, he played basketball for the University of Connecticut and remained a follower of the sport throughout his life. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served during World War II. Prior to his retirement, Bill was the owner of the Merion Turf Farm and Garden Center of Yalesville and in later years Director of Grounds and Maintenance at Yale University. His true passion in life was the game of golf and he was a member of the Wallingford Country Club for over sixty years. He was well known for sharing his garden tomatoes with everyone. He completed the daily jumble and beat solitaire each day. Bill was a lifelong resident of Wallingford and enjoyed many friendships in the community.
He will be sadly missed by his daughter and son-in-law: Linda and Vincent King of Pearl River, NY; his two grandsons: Sean and Brian King; nieces: Karin Pyskaty, Joan Bravo, Cara Gagnon, and Katie Grealish. He is preceded in death by his son: William L. Ohr, Jr. and his brother: Andrew L. Ohr, Jr.
