William L. “Bill” Liebhart, 76, of Peru, passed away April 5, 2014 at Manor Court of Peru.
Mr. Liebhart was born on July 22, 1937 in LaSalle to August and Anna (Stuppy) Liebhart. He married Myra Stormer on October 19, 1968 in Washington. Bill graduated from Sherwood School of Music with a bachelor degree in Music Education, and sang with the Lyric Opera Company in Chicago. He then earned his master degree in Music Education from Northern Illinois University. He served in the Army from 1960 to 1966. He was a music educator for more than 37 years working at St. Bede Academy in Peru and Fieldcrest C.U.S.D. 6. Bill worked as the Park and Recreational Director/Pool Manager in LaSalle for several years. He received the Pere Marquette Award in 2012. Bill was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Peru and was director of the church choir for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife, Myra of Peru; one daughter, Julie (David) Montez of Spring Valley; three grandchildren, Joseph, Angela and Tess Montez; two brothers, Andrew and Ramon Liebhart both of LaSalle; three sisters, Gita (Harold) Smith of Peru, Mary Carol Jesiolowski, of LaSalle, and Helen Liebhart of LaSalle; one aunt, Imogene Palmer of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Richard, Claude, Joseph, and August “Bim” Liebhart; two sisters, Katherine and Audrey Liebhart. Pallbearers will be David Montez, Joseph Montez, Angela Montez, Tess Montez, Michael Liebhart, Arthur Windy, and Ron Windy. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Liebhart and James Judy.
