William Leon Gaiser, retired Lt Colonel for the United States Air Force, died on Friday, December 20, 2013.  He was born in Bluffton, Indiana and moved to the Gaiser Farm near Liberty Center where he graduated from high school.  William attended Purdue University where he earned a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and while attending Purdue, he married Evelyn “Jo” Joyce Green.  He was commissioned into the United States Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant, attended flight training, graduated number 1 in his class, received the outstanding Student Pilot Award and later earned Instructor Pilot of the Year.  He also earned a M.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering (Guidance Control) from the Air Force Institute of Technology.  He instructed courses in Telemetry, Signal Processing, and Transistor Theory for the University of New Mexico.  He was assigned to the Air Force Missile Development Center/Combat Pilot in Vietnam where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and seventeen Air Medals.  He served as Research and Development Staff Officer, HQ USAF Pentagon, South East Asia Projects Office/Managed and directed R and D resources within the Air Force Armament Laboratory and served as Office Manager for Eglin Office of Systems Control, Inc.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Evelyn “Jo” Joyce Gaiser, their children:  Debbie Wilson, Steve Gaiser, and Diane Dillman; 9 granddaughters:  Kadie Walmer, Tiffany Kraft, Shelby Peaden, Stacy Gourley, Kaylyn Boles, Linsey Grindle, Kelly Gaiser, Jill Gaiser, Meg Gaiser; and 5 great-grandchildren: Dylan Walmer, Regan Walmer, Griffin Peaden, Brooklyn Grindle, and Aubrey Kraft.
