Mr. Armitage was a dairy farmer and mechanic. He then became an electrical engineer and worked for companies in Cincinnati, Ohio, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Indianapolis, Indiana and Bloomington, Illinois. He later lived in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, then Florida prior to coming to Muncie.
Surviving are his wife, Joan (Goberville) Armitage; five children, Ruella Hurlbut, (husband, Rev. Philip), Lakeland, Florida, Rev. Robert Armitage, (wife, Donna), Santa Rosa, California, Boyd Armitage, (wife, Debby), Augusta, Georgia, Rita Roberts, (husband, Harold), Muncie, Indiana, and Craig Armitage, (wife, Pam), Iowa Falls, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Armitage, to whom he had been married sixty-six years; and two grandchildren, Danita Armitage and Drew Armitage.
