William John (Bill) James, 84, born Lawrence Scoville Fisk, passed away on Tuesday January 15 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
He leaves behind a large and loving family. Born in Evanston, Illinois on July 1, 1928, Bill was the son of Lawrence Fisk and Marie James Fisk. He was adopted at age five by his maternal grandparents.
A veteran of the Army, Bill attained the rank of Sergeant. He started his career in the Chicago suburbs at Commonwealth Edison Company as a lineman, and retired as an engineer. He was a longtime resident of Northbrook, Illinois, where he and his wife Evelyn built their first home and raised their family of six children. After briefly living in Arlington Heights, Illinois, they retired to Dodgeville, Wisconsin in 1989 where they enjoyed their gardens and hosting visiting friends and family. They moved to Bloomington, Indiana in 2005 and quickly made many new friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his first child, Stephanie James (Ely), and is survived by his wife Evelyn James, and children Jeff James, Susan James (Doyle), David James, Patrick James and Matthew James. Grandchildren include Matt James, Mike James, Tyler James, Travis Ely, Will Ely, Christine Doyle, Thomas Doyle, Emily Doyle, Becky Ebben, and Maddie James. His great grandchild is Mackenzy James. Loving brother of Mary Jo Fisk Flannery, Patricia Fisk Mickelson, Stephen James, Jim Fisk, Jennifer Fisk, and half-brother Charles Fisk.
