William John Aten passed away on March 23, 2014.  He left in his own way… unexpectedly and quickly.  He was 92 years and 4 days old.  He was very proud of that.

He was born March 19, 1922 in Arena Valley to Walter and Verna Aten.  He was the last surviving member of his family.

In 1950, Bill married Gladys Jenkins.  Together they raised three children – Debbye, Carol, and Joe.  Bill farmed down in Arena Valley until 1964 when he moved his family to Caldwell.  Bill began working at J.R. Simplot’s until his retirement in 1984.

Bill entered the Army in October 1940 and proudly served his country until 1945.  Bill was a medic in the Army and his last assignment was helping to liberate Buchenwald.  Bill had many stories to share with his family about the war but always stated “War as such a terrible thing.”

In Bill’s retirement, he became interested in Real Estate – buying and selling.  He was quite proud of his success in those adventures.

Bill was a quiet, well respected man with a great appreciation for his family.  He leaves behind his three children, Debbye Norton (Jack), Carol Louie (Gary) and Joe Aten (Maria).  He also leaves behind his dear friend and Skip-Bo partner, Zelda Nysingh.  Bill and Zelda spent many hours at the Senior Center in Parma and Homedale.  He is also survived by Gladys Jenkins Warren.

Bill was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua and a great-grandson, Justin.  Also preceding him are his parents, Verna and Walter; his brothers, Phil, Wayne, sister, Kathryn Carver, Mary Ann Greenway.

We are all so blessed to have had him in our lives – Dad, we will love you and miss you always.

Bill’s daughter and daughter-in-law Debbye and Maria gave many, many selfless hours of their time to assist Bill with any of his needs – whether they were large or small.  He never had to look outside of those two for anything.  He made frequent statements to the effect of how much he loved and appreciated them.
