William Henry Lee transitioned into eternal life on July 9, 2015. He was born on June 17, 1924 to the late Joe and Julia Lee in Birmingham, Alabama. William grew up in Montgomery and attended the school system there. In the early 1940’s, his family migrated to Washington, DC.
William was joined in holy matrimony to the late Elaine Sizer and from that union, was born Cassie. He later married the late Helen Lucille Brown.
As a young man, William played baseball for several Negro league baseball teams. He could also be found most weekends laboring as the community “shade tree” mechanic.
Never one to be idle, William worked various jobs in the Washington, DC area from a cab hack, to hauling bricks, to being a member of the Metropolitan Police Force. In 1999, after 37 years of service he retired from the National Capital Parks, Department of the Interior.
In his later years, he enjoyed hunting, deep sea fishing, and following the Washington Redskin’s, National’s, and Orioles.
Left to cherish his loving memories, are his two daughters Cassie and Tanya (Darren); three grandchildren, Brian, James (Rasheda), and Eneia (Donald); one great-grandchild, Semaj; a special great niece, Karen; two devoted friends, Robert Taylor and Louise Nickens; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings Joshua, Molly, and Effie.
