William H. (“Bill”) Stablein (1932-2014) passed away peacefully on June 28, 2014, with his family at his side. Born in Brooklyn, New York on April 24, 1932, he is the son of the late Elizabeth and Francis Stablein. Bill attended LaSalle Military Academy in Troy, New York for high school, and is a 1953 graduate of the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. While attending Notre Dame, he met Mary Maher, who he married in 1954.

The two have been inseparable ever since, and recently celebrated their 60th year anniversary. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force from 1954 thru 1956; later as a Senior Marketing Advisor to Exxon International in New York from 1954 thru 1980; before starting his own business in 1980. He retired in 1997. Bill loved to travel and play golf, and was a member of The Patterson Club, where he enjoyed attending swim meets. He was also a member of the Gaelic American Club. He was a devout parishioner of St. Pius X Parish, serving as a lecturer and Eucharistic Minister. He was president of the Friends United for Notre Dame Schools (FUNDS), and served on the Board of CLASP Homes in Westport. He was a fantastic husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, family-man, mentor, leader and friend. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Thomas Maher Stablein.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, his sister, Nancy Rusch (Richard) of Huntington, NY and his children; William Stablein Jr. (Diane), Michael (Carol), Mary Elizabeth Hady (Dave), daughter-in-law Patricia Benner (Ron), John (Brenda), Julie Frassetto (Don), Patricia Ahearn (Michael), James (Kelly), Margaret Seguin (Roy), and Kathleen Stablein, twenty-five grandchildren; William III (Kate), David, Elizabeth Pierce (Rusty), Michael Jr., Kimberly, Kyle, Kelly, Kevin, Thomas Jr. (Colleen), Samantha, Nancy, John Jr., Amy, Sarah, Timothy, Molly, Shannon, Michael Jr., Meghan, James Jr., McKenna, Maggie, Peter, Michael, David; and three great-grandchildren, Aylin, Myers, and Emma, along with several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many friends. The family wishes to give a special thanks to the caring staff at Ludlowe Health and Rehabilitation Center. We will all miss him greatly. His example will live on through all of us.
