William H. Hamlin, Jr., devoted husband and father passed away on April 25, 2010 at home in Johns Creek, Georgia. Bill, or Luke , as he was affectionately known to his family and friends, was born on December 22, 1928, in Charleston, South Carolina. His favorite boyhood memories included attending the High School of Charleston and always finding time to fish on Colonial Lake each day after school. He graduated from The College of Charleston where he played basketball, and met his beloved wife, Dorothy, of fifty-six years. In 1948 Luke was recruited to serve as one of the Original Six Public Health Advisors in the Federal Government. He served in this role with pride and enthusiasm as he, along with his colleagues, blazed new trails in disease control and emergency medicine. After 33 years, he retired from his Federal career, but remained a public servant with a second career in law enforcement. For the next thirteen years, he thoroughly enjoyed serving as a Lilburn, Georgia police officer. Those close to him knew that he had a passion for reading, travelling, eating, and taking long naps. He always took an interest in others, and his sincere and fun-loving manner will be missed by many. Luke is survived by his six children and many grandchildren.
